iCanMonitor update - Featured App status
iCanMonitor Update
We want to share an important update regarding iCanMonitor and its status as a Featured App on the Canton network.
Following recent discussions, the Tokenomics Committee has determined that iCanMonitor does not fully align with the current Featured App guidelines. Under these guidelines, compliance would require us to charge users for the service. As many of you know, this conflicts with our core mission to provide iCanMonitor as a public good for the Canton ecosystem.
As a result, we have stopped generating Featured App activity markers as of December 21st, 2025. From that moment onward, rewards have ceased accumulating. All rewards earned up to that date will be paid out to users on schedule, early January.
At the same time, we strongly believe that validator health monitoring should be a core, freely available service for every Canton validator. For that reason, ALUM Labs is currently drafting a CIP proposal to explore operating iCanMonitor as part of a Super Validator model. Our service does not neatly fit the original intent of Featured Apps, and it may be better positioned as a network utility operated by a Super Validator, either by us or in collaboration with an existing one, or potentially funded directly by the foundation.
Until a clear path forward is established, iCanMonitor will remain fully operational. We will continue to run and fund the underlying infrastructure ourselves while we evaluate the available options, which include:
-
continuing as a Super Validator,
-
integrating with another Super Validator,
-
or operating under foundation funding.
We have asked the Tokenomics Committee for guidance on the preferred direction, but we have not yet received a response. We will keep you informed as soon as there are updates.
Thank you for your continued trust and support. We sincerely hope you will continue using iCanMonitor, as it plays an important role in improving the reliability and security of the Canton ecosystem.
