VaultKit is the infrastructure layer for launching vault products on Canton, running on the institution’s own environment

I’m Tomi from Moonsong Labs. We’ve been working on VaultKit with a cohort of initial design partners. Design partners get early access, direct input into the roadmap, and hands-on support from the Moonsong engineering team.

• What: VaultKit lets financial institutions launch and run vault products on Canton. It packages the complexities of Daml contracts, backend services, APIs, control plane, permissioning and node tooling into a single stack.

Today, institutions build the vault layer or give up control

Vaults are familiar asset-management structures governed by ledger-based contracts and compatible with tokenized assets. Investors subscribe to a pooled vehicle, receive shares, and later redeem them.

One of the biggest challenges of bringing these products on-chain comes from the control plane, compliance rules, privacy, and integrations that sit on top of on-chain and node operations. Today, financial institutions either spend quarters building this infrastructure in-house or outsource it to an external provider, giving up control of their data, positions, and client relationships.

That’s why we built VaultKit.

With VaultKit, institutions get the vault layer and keep control

Canton provides privacy, settlement, and a tokenized assets ecosystem. VaultKit adds everything needed to run a vault product on top of that:

• Investor onboarding: Asset managers onboard investors and set granular permissions to vault access. Investors can opt in to external signing for custody.
• Subscriptions and redemptions: Requests follow approval workflows that match how the institution operates, with clear control over who approves and who releases.
• On-ledger vaults: Daml contracts manage shares, NAV updates, positions, and business workflows.
• Transaction visibility: Operations teams see every subscription, redemption, and position change across the vault, while investors and counterparties see only their own activity.
• Node operations: VaultKit includes tooling to set up, monitor, and maintain the participant node, backed by the Moonsong team’s node management expertise.
• Integrations: VaultKit connects to the custody, identity, pricing, and fund administration systems the institution already uses.

Our product is API-first, so institutions can integrate it into their existing stack. An optional console provides operations teams with a control plane and gives investors a place to manage their positions.

Institutions skip the in-house build and retain full control of their data. VaultKit is deployed in the institution’s environment and runs on its own Canton participant node.

The common thread is a regulated firm that wants to offer a product to its own investors, on its own node, without building the vault layer or handing it to a third party. Some examples:

• Asset managers bringing a tokenized fund on-chain.
• Banks and broker-dealers running collateral or margin pools.
