Action Required: Wallet Memo Field Expansion for CIP-0127 Support
Overview
With the recent approval of CIP-0127 (On-Chain Enforcement of FA and SV Locking), the ecosystem is advancing toward automated on-chain enforcement. To ensure a seamless rollout and integration, we are calling on all wallet providers to ensure that their memo fields allow up to 1,000 characters in their UIs.
Background
CIP-0127 relies on the transaction memo field to encode essential lock data as key-value pairs. It’s understood that many wallet provider UIs have a character limit on the memo / description field in the UI. Since the lock data can become quite large, we require all wallet providers to extend their message and description field allowances to a minimum of 1,000 characters.
Next Steps
-
Audit Your UI: Check the maximum character limits on your current transfer memo and description fields.
-
Increase Limits: Expand these input limits to 1,000 characters to safely encapsulate all CIP-0127 lock data parameters.
-
Test Integration: Verify that your wallet can successfully parse, display, and submit these extended strings to the network without silent truncation.
