Grant Proposal Submission — BPMN-to-DAML Compilation Engine: Open Canton Developer Toolchain
- toggle quoted message Show quoted text
Hello Amanda, and the Canton Foundation Team,
Thank you for the recent announcement on the operationalization of the Canton Development Fund and the establishment of the grants mailing lists — this is a well-structured launch and an important step for the ecosystem.
Following that announcement, I am pleased to formally submit ZenithBlox’s proposal for consideration:
Title: BPMN-to-DAML Compilation Engine: Open Canton Developer Toolchain
GitHub PR: github.com/canton-foundation/canton-dev-fundThe proposal introduces an open-source BPMN-to-DAML compilation framework designed to enable institutional workflow authoring on Canton without requiring deep DAML expertise. It delivers a reusable developer toolchain — comprising a formal grammar specification, compiler module, and Canton-native BPMN extension pack — structured across four milestone-based deliverables, Apache 2.0 licensing, and a clearly defined semantic scope for v1.
The work is aligned with the Fund’s priorities across developer tooling, reference implementation, and core R&D.
To complement the written submission, I am including two short demonstrations of the existing foundation that this proposal extends to DAML:
• BloxBlueprint (visual BPMN modeling layer):
https://youtu.be/FWKeRxERZGM?si=NJ2ttYYuVy2PanEh• BPMN-to-smart-contract compilation prototype:
https://youtu.be/HZyyNs8gSX0?si=swJJrMsQkTGfgZUnZenithBlox is also an approved Canton Validator Operator and is currently activating its node in parallel with this contribution, as part of our long-term participation in the network.
We would welcome the opportunity to:
Align on the proposed M1 grammar scope via the grants-discuss channel
Present the proposal to the Tech & Ops Committee or a relevant working group
Receive any guidance on the preferred review process
Please let us know the most appropriate next step or format.
Thank you for your time and for the care being put into structuring the Canton Development Fund.
Best regards,
Fodé Touré

As we continue to roll out and operationalize the Canton Development Fund, we’ve set up two mailing lists to help the community stay informed and engaged in the grants process.
grants-announce@...
This list is for official updates, including:
• Approved and rejected proposals
• Funding decisions and milestone outcomes
• Key updates from the committeeIf you want a clear signal on what is being funded and how the fund is progressing, this is the best place to stay up to date.
grants-discuss@...
This list is for open discussion and collaboration, including:
• Proposal feedback and early-stage ideas
• Questions on scope, milestones, and alignment
• Community input on ecosystem needs and prioritiesIf you are submitting a proposal, considering one, or want to help shape what gets funded, we strongly encourage you to join this list.
Together, these lists are intended to support a more transparent, collaborative, and efficient grants process aligned with CIP-0100.
We encourage all ecosystem participants to subscribe to one or both depending on your level of interest.
Thank you for your continued engagement and support.
