    Hello Canton Development Fund Community,

My name is Mohammed Hafeji, Founder & CEO of Snapix Ltd., a Canadian technology company developing Snapix Money.

Dr. Amanda Martin directed us to this discussion list as the appropriate first step for receiving technical feedback, identifying the relevant SIG, and finding a Tech & Ops Champion before proceeding with a formal Development Fund proposal.

We are seeking community feedback on a proposed US$100,000 open-source commerce and payments infrastructure project for Canton.

    Project concept

Snapix Money is a payments-enabled commerce platform currently in active MVP development. Our broader product connects merchant payments with digital receipts, refunds, rewards, gift cards, store credits, transaction history, merchant reporting and customer engagement.

Rather than asking the Canton Development Fund to subsidize the proprietary Snapix Money application itself, we propose building a set of reusable, open-source Canton commerce infrastructure components that other wallets, payment applications, merchant platforms and financial applications could adopt independently.

Snapix Money would serve as the first reference implementation and pilot environment.

    Proposed open-source deliverables

    1. Canton Commerce Transaction Model

A reusable Daml-based reference model for merchant commerce workflows, including merchant payment references, payment status, settlement/reconciliation state, refunds and associated commerce metadata while minimizing unnecessary disclosure of commercial information.

    2. Merchant Payment & Reconciliation SDK

A developer-facing integration layer and reference APIs for connecting conventional merchant systems to Canton-based payment and settlement workflows.

The toolkit would cover transaction initiation, identifiers, status synchronization, reconciliation, failure handling and merchant reporting.

    3. Privacy-Preserving Receipt & Commerce Record Pattern

A reference architecture showing how payment-linked digital receipts and post-transaction records can be coordinated without placing sensitive cardholder information or unnecessary customer data on-chain.

    4. Canton Payment Reference Application

An open-source merchant/consumer reference implementation demonstrating the complete lifecycle from transaction initiation through confirmation, reconciliation and post-payment events.

    5. Testing, Documentation & Integration Toolkit

Automated tests, local development examples, technical documentation, deployment guidance and reusable integration patterns intended to reduce implementation work for future Canton commerce applications.

    Why Canton

Canton’s privacy model and synchronized financial infrastructure make it particularly relevant for commerce and payment workflows where different participants need shared transaction state but should not automatically gain visibility into unrelated merchant or customer information.

We believe there is room for an additional reusable layer focused specifically on real-world merchant commerce and reconciliation.

    Proposed roadmap

Milestone 1 – Architecture & Canton Development Environment
Define the commerce data model, privacy boundaries, Daml contract architecture, development environment and integration specifications.

    Milestone 2 – Core Open-Source Commerce Contracts
Implement payment-reference, transaction-state, settlement/reconciliation and post-payment workflow components with automated tests.

Milestone 3 – SDK & Backend Integration Toolkit
Build reusable APIs, backend adapters, transaction synchronization, failure handling and merchant reporting components.

Milestone 4 – Reference Implementation & Controlled Testing
Integrate the components into a Snapix Money reference environment and complete controlled end-to-end transaction testing.

Milestone 5 – Documentation, Pilot & Public Release
Publish the grant-funded components, documentation, examples and technical findings, and validate them through a controlled merchant pilot.

    Requested Development Fund support

    US$100,000

    Proposed allocation:

    - Core Canton/Daml engineering: $35,000
    - SDK and backend integration infrastructure: $20,000
    - Security, QA and testing: $15,000
    - Reference implementation and merchant pilot: $15,000
    - Documentation, open-source packaging and developer examples: $10,000
    - Infrastructure and monitoring: $5,000

    Total: $100,000

    Open-source commitment

The Canton-specific components funded through the Development Fund would be released publicly under an appropriate permissive open-source license.

Snapix Money’s unrelated proprietary application code, internal business logic and sensitive payment infrastructure would remain outside the funded scope.

    Current stage

Snapix Ltd. is incorporated in Ontario, Canada. Snapix Money is currently pre-revenue and in active MVP development with a five-person core team covering product leadership, infrastructure, backend/database engineering, full-stack development, and fraud/anomaly research.

We do not claim an existing Canton production deployment or transaction volume. This proposal is intended to take the work from architecture through working implementation, open-source release and controlled real-world validation.

    Feedback requested

Before preparing the formal Development Fund submission, we would especially appreciate guidance on:

    1. Whether this scope is appropriately framed as a Canton public-good infrastructure contribution.
    2. Which SIG would be the most appropriate home for the proposal.
    3. Whether any existing Canton project materially overlaps with these deliverables.
    4. Which components would be most useful to other Canton builders.
    5. Whether a member of the relevant SIG or Tech & Ops Committee would be willing to act as our Champion if the proposal is refined appropriately.

We are happy to adjust the scope based on community feedback rather than duplicate infrastructure that already exists.
