Development Fund Proposal Submission

Summary

This proposal funds an open-source operational tool that provides a UI layer over Canton CLI and node administration workflows, making participant and validator management significantly easier and safer for technical teams. Starting from an existing MVP, the project will expand into a broader admin platform with DAR deployment and version management, OIDC authentication, identity backups, REST API, and logging/monitoring. For the Canton ecosystem, this delivers a reusable operational layer that reduces reliance on custom scripts, lowers operator error, and makes Canton infrastructure more accessible and easier to standardize across teams.

Notes for Reviewers

  • This proposal is for an open-source operational tool, not a replacement for the Canton CLI. The goal is to provide a safer, more usable management layer on top of existing Canton node administration workflows.
  • The project already has an MVP with working support for account, user, rights, party, and validator management. The requested funding is focused on hardening, open-sourcing, documenting, and extending that MVP into a broader ecosystem tool.
  • The Committee should evaluate this proposal as shared operational infrastructure for the ecosystem: without a reusable tool, teams are likely to continue building internal wrappers and scripts for the same participant and validator workflows.
  • Particular attention should be paid to the value of the planned next-step features — DAR deployment and version visibility, OIDC authentication, identity backups, REST API, and logging/monitoring — because these are the features that move the project from a useful internal utility to infrastructure-grade tooling for wider adoption.
  • We expect the main ecosystem value to come not only from the software itself, but also from making Canton operations more standardized, auditable, and accessible for teams managing real deployments.
