Summary
Canton has no reusable reference for connecting on-ledger token settlement to a genuinely off-ledger bank rail in either direction. Every team wanting a fiat corridor backed by an actual rail, rather than a tokenized proxy for one, starts from zero.
This proposal delivers an open-source, rail-agnostic fiat connector built on CIP-0056: Daml escrow templates, an off-ledger connector with a documented rail-adapter interface, and an integration blueprint, all Apache-2.0. It is proven on the first BRL corridor on the network, settled over PIX, running both off-ramp and on-ramp.
The ecosystem value is a repeatable bidirectional pattern any participant can fork for MXN over SPEI, USD over ACH, or EUR over SEPA by writing only a rail adapter, plus Canton's first connection to a market of 180 million PIX users.
