Digital Asset announced the general availability of Daml 2.0, the newest version of Digital Asset’s multi-party application platform. This version makes it easier than ever to build and deploy best-in-class, multi-party applications. Daml 2.0 includes Canton, a privacy-enabled distributed ledger that is enhanced when deployed with complementary blockchains. Canton ensures strong privacy and compliance — unique among multi-party systems — while synchronizing transactions across any supported blockchain or database. For example, a Daml asset can now be safely delivered on Hyperledger Besu while the payment can be made using a different Daml asset on Hyperledger Fabric, in a single, atomic transaction.

Today, businesses are increasingly using multi-party applications to drive efficiency and innovation by automating processes and delivering new products and services. However, the lack of reliable privacy protecting platforms means that multi-party applications too often languish in the proof-of-concept phase or fall behind a walled garden — a siloed blockchain implementation with limited reach. Additional challenges exist when connecting these applications that run on different blockchains or databases, requiring complex workarounds that introduce risk and issues with data consistency and privacy. Consequently, businesses have been unable to realize the full potential of blockchain, distributed ledger technologies, and the multi-party applications that can create novel products and experiences.

What the Daml certification really brings us is a very structured approach that if you onboard new team members that in the quickest and the most efficient way they can get hands on with Daml and become ready to work on client projects.

People that today are maybe more traditional java developers in our team and they want to learn something new they can go to the daml.com/certification, they can get trained and potentially join and grow within their careers. It has really helped us in the go-to-market with our Daml developers from “zero to hero”.

First thing I will look for when I’m kind of going out when I’m presenting myself is to have the developer’s skill set required to do these projects that are Daml based. Having a benchmark and having a stand of approval, that you have these capabilities that’s really valuable to be recognized in the community that you have those skill sets.

This certification has really helped us to understand nuances of the term Smart Contract, how to build a multi-party ecosystem with distributed ledgers. It creates an enormous value for both functional programmers as traditional engineers to learn in the quickest and most efficient way about the smart contract language.

And as an engineering manager it also gives you a good ability o really see the progress that your engineers are making in learning about the language. And of course it brings the trust to the market and to your clients. With every language there are going to be some kind of advanced capabilities that need to be developed and so having the certification and digging deeper into the language itself through the certification process will get people better prepared to deal with those issues.

Certification was quite easy given that the template and syntax were quite easy to follow and easy to understand in the common language. I am really excited to be part of the community and having benefited from some of the developers.

I think it prepared me and I really appreciate it for what they’ve done and I hope to contribute that as well to the rest of the community in the future.
